An explosive was found at a recycling company in Biddinghuizen on Friday afternoon. All employees therefore had to leave the site. Explosives experts take the bomb away.

The discovery was made around two o’clock at Van Werven, a company that is active in infrastructure and recycling, among other things. The entire site on Biddingringweg was soon cleared.

“That went exactly according to protocol,” says Eric van Roekel. He is general manager of the plastics recycling department. The site in Biddinghuizen is specifically designed for this type of waste.

“Colleagues saw the object while unloading a new load. Everyone then stopped work and went to the collection point. The police were immediately called.”

A special police explosives scout first looked at the bomb. Employees of the Defense Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service (EOD) were then called up.

They investigated the bomb and then removed it to defuse it. Around half past four the danger had passed and Van Werven employees could return to work.

Van Roekel does not know how the bomb ended up in the freight. “Luckily nothing happened along the way. You don’t have to think about what could happen.”

It is not known what type of explosive it is.
