Baghdad (dpa -Afx) – Despite the recent developments in the war in Iran, proiran militias in the neighboring country of Iraq currently have no interest in the conflict.

Above all, it depends on what Tehran is doing next, said Iraq expert Luluwa al-Raschid from the German Press Agency. But: “You don’t want to move your country into a war,” said Al-Raschid. Iraq has seen a lot of suffering, war and destruction in recent decades. The representatives of the militias supported by Iran are not interested in any further “spiral of violence” – despite their rhetoric of resistance to the USA and Israel.

According to the US attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities, there is concern before the war is expanded. Observers see Tehran-controlled attacks at US bases in the region as a possible scenario. Allied militias could also be used in Iraq, for example. Some of them have already given threats to the United States.

Hisbollah as a deterrent example

However, they were also afraid of a fate similar to that of the Hisbollah in Lebanon, which was also supported by Iran, according to the analyst, who has long examined the situation in the region for non -governmental organizations and is now working independently.

The Lebanese Schiiten militia stood in the open war with Israel after months of shelling in solidarity with Hamas in the Gaza Strip in the North of Israeli last autumn. A large part of her management was killed, her long -time general secretary Hassan Nasrallah. Hisbollah has been considered to be severely weak since the war. “They are well aware that they could happen exactly the same overnight,” said Al-Raschid.

Don’t want to lose political influence

At the same time, many of the militias also have political influence today. Under the current government of Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani, she would have access to public office or have a great influence on political leadership. “You don’t want to lose that. You know that the price could be very high,” said the Iraq expert. If Tehran actively demands support or Iran’s top guide Ajatollah Ali Chamenei is killed, new dynamics could develop.

Since the US invasion in 2003, there has been a confusing security situation in Iraq. Dozens of Shiite militias could be created in this way. Most of them are part of the so -called folk mobilization forces with strong relationships with Iran. In the past, they have already attacked US goals in the region several times. You consider the approximately 2500 US soldiers in the country as occupiers and request their deduction./arj/dp/mis
