Exit poll: centre-right party wins Bulgaria elections

Former Prime Minister Boiko Borisov’s center-right GERB party has won Bulgaria’s general election. According to a Gallup exit poll, GERB gets about 25 percent of the vote, followed by Kiril Petkov’s centrist party with about 19 percent.

Borisov, 63, has been prime minister three times before. He ran a campaign with a message of ‘return to stability’. However, Borisov will struggle to find coalition partners, observers expect.

Sunday’s Bulgarian elections, the fourth in the past year and a half, were dominated by economic problems. The poorest member state of the European Union is struggling with an annual inflation rate of almost 20 percent.
