The design of SaiPa’s new home is progressing.

SaiPa got some good news.

SaiPa, which sensationally advanced to the finals of the SM League last season, received good news on Monday.

Lappeenranta’s city government proposes to the city council that Lappeenranta’s future multipurpose arena be built in the Armila hospital area.

This would mean that the city’s long-planned project would move towards a more concrete preparation phase.

According to the city council’s proposal, the council should choose the Armila area as the location for the new arena and start preparations for the implementation of the project. The preparation responsibility would be divided among several city industries and subsidiaries.

Based on the presentation, city planning would prepare the necessary plan changes, Lappeenrantan Toimitilat Oy would be responsible for making a needs assessment and project plan in close cooperation with the arena’s future users, and the group administration would clarify the financing and ownership model in the city’s group structure.

The goal is that the construction of the arena could start in 2027 at the latest, and the new multi-purpose arena would be commissioned in 2029.

SaiPa is satisfied with the schedule of Monday evening’s meeting of the city board.

– Armila is a functionally appropriate location for SaiPa and its junior activities in the immediate vicinity of the city center. The Armila region offers a large plot of land, which enables the planning and implementation of the arena without compromise. SaiPa is satisfied with the fact that decisions about the location are being made during the fall, SaiPa said in its announcement.

The multipurpose arena is designed to replace the current Kisapuisto ice rink, which was completed in 1972 and would require extensive renovation.

The purpose of the new arena is to serve as a multipurpose space for both ice sports and other events.
