The former co-boss Rubin Ritter also benefited from the rise of the online fashion retailer Zalando to a DAX company. In 2021 alone, he received around 89 million euros by exercising stock options, according to the online fashion retailer’s annual report. The 40-year-old knight left Zalando last summer to take care of his family.
Like the Zalando founders Robert Gentz and David Schneider, Ritter only ever received a five-digit fixed annual salary. Additional stock options for the rapidly growing company served as a further performance incentive even before the IPO in 2014. (dpa)
