At the age of 43, Fernando Alonso is by far the oldest driver in Formula 1. However, he does not yet think of a career end.

Fernando Alonso doesn’t think about quitting. In front of the Grand Prix in his Spanish homeland, the 43-year-old emphasizes: “You have to feel it when the time has come. And I don’t feel it yet.”

His current contract with Aston Martin is said to be valid until the end of 2026. The two -time world champion had already seen through several times that they wanted to be preserved to the team beyond his active career. At first, however, his focus is on the coming season. Then a comprehensive standard reform in Formula 1, from which Alonso promises a redistribution of forces – and thus also better sporty perspectives.

At the moment, however, it looks dark in the World Cup ranking: Alonso is only in 18th place before the race on the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on Sunday. But that does not reduce its motivation. “When I am finished on Sundays, even if the results are not good at the moment, I’m already motivated for the next race,” said the veteran.

At the same time, Alonso makes it clear that there is no guarantee of his persistent passion. He drove his first race in the premier class over 24 years ago – now he has contested more than 400 Grands Prix.
