“Forever grateful”: World star ends his career

At Real Madrid, Marcelo became one of the most feared full -back in the world. Now the Brazilian pulls the line under his career.
Former Brazilian international Marcelo has announced his end of his career. In a video on Instagram, the 36-year-old shared pictures from his successful career and wrote: “Forever.”
His contract at his youth club Fluminense had already been dissolved in November. Most of his career spent Marcelo at Real Madrid, where he played for 15 years and won a total of 25 titles with the royal. He won the Champions League five times with the club.
Marcelo played 58 caps for the Brazilian national team and scored six goals. He took part in the 2014 World Championships in Brazil and in 2018 in Russia. He had won his last title in 2023 with fluminense: the extremely prestigious Copa Libertadores in South America.
Marcelo said in his farewell video: “What an incredible journey. Real Madrid is a unique club.” And further: “My journey as a player ends here. But I have so much to give football. Thank you for everything.”
Real President Florentino Pérez praised Marcelo in a club statement. The player is “one of the greatest left-back in the history of Real Madrid and world football,” said the 77-year-old. “We had the privilege of being able to enjoy him for many years. He is one of our biggest legends, and Real Madrid is and will always be his home.”
