Ex-Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon’s wife Nora Forster has died at the age of 80 after years of Alzheimer’s disease.

Lydon, better known by his stage name Johnny Rotten, made the announcement on his Twitter account Thursday night, posting a photo of the couple hugging and looking happily at the camera.

The 67-year-old, who has been married to his wife for more than four decades, last took care of her full-time.

Nora Forster was born in Germany

Forster was the daughter of the publisher Franz Karl Maier. She has also worked as a model and actress for a time.

Lydon recently wanted to represent Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest with a song he dedicated to his wife.

The song “Hawaii” by his band Public Image Ltd, with which Lydon wanted to draw attention to his wife Nora’s Alzheimer’s disease, only took fourth place in the preselection.

Lydon was born in London to Irish parents. In January he told ITV that he has been with his wife for 45 years.

“Even though Alzheimer’s is so terrible, we have beautiful moments of intimacy. I tried to capture that in the song, that it’s not just waiting for the grim reaper.”
