In the clubs, the planning for the coming season is in full swing. All important news in the transfer ticker.
This year’s transfer summer has it all. This is because the clubs are allowed to sign players for the first time in two different periods. Due to the club World Cup, the first transfer window for the participating clubs was open from June 1st to June 10th. The regular transfer window then extends from July 1st to September 1st.
Former international Kevin Behrens has found a new club. The previous Wolfsburg striker, who had not received a new contract from VfL, changes to Switzerland free of charge and plays there for FC Lugano. The 34-year-old signed a two-year contract in Ticino. It is his first wandering station.
Behrens had contested 106 Bundesliga games for the 1st FC Union Berlin and VfL Wolfsburg and marked 16 goals. In October 2023, he played his only international match in October 2023 against Mexico.
Eintracht Frankfurt rejected a very well-endowed offer from Premier League club Newcastle United for striker Hugo Ekitiké. Read more about this here.
After two years, Jordan Henderson moved back to the Premier League. The 35-year-old most recently played for the Dutch top club Ajax Amsterdam and is now joining FC Brentford.
Brentford coach Keith Andrews said in the club announcement: “We took a close look at his last games to see where he is: he is still phenomenal fit and he is still phenomenally motivated to achieve something after he has already achieved a lot.”
Henderson played 492 competitive games for Liverpool and was captain under coach Jürgen Klopp for many years. With the “Reds”, Henderson became champion and Champions League winner. Due to his strong performance in Amsterdam, Henderson even made it back to the English national team under coach Thomas Tuchel. To stay there, he wants to play a major role in Brentford.
Bayer Leverkusen and Matěj Kovář are going separate paths for the time being. The 25-year-old goalkeeper switches to the Dutch champion PSV Eindhoven on a loan. As the Bundesliga club announced, the agreement includes an obligation to purchase that applies under certain conditions. Kovář is under contract in Leverkusen until June 30, 2027.
In 2023/2024, the Czech national player, as deputy master keeper Lukáš Hrádecký, had his share in the historical double profit of the “Werkelf”. “His claim is now a number 1 status at a top club at Champions League level,” said sports manager Simon Rolfes in a club announcement.
The goalkeeper switched from Manchester United to Leverkusen in the summer of 2023 for around five million euros. There, however, he did not get past Hrádecký and was usually only sporadically used under coach Xabi Alonso. The commitment of Mark Flekken from FC Brentford also reduced his perspectives.
According to media reports, Alassane Pléa will leave the Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach. As the Pay TV broadcaster Sky and “Kicker” report, the switch from the attacker to PSV Eindhoven is imminent. According to this, the 32-year-old Frenchman is said to have already said goodbye to his teammates on Monday. The medical check should take place promptly.
