Timo Werner hasn’t played a role in Leipzig for a long time. Next year he could leave the club – and suddenly play together with Lionel Messi.
Timo Werner is apparently about to move to the North American MLS. As the pay TV broadcaster Sky reports, the RB Leipzig attacker and his advisors are in talks with Inter Miami about a transfer in January. The team from Florida, which will face Thomas Müller’s Vancouver Whitecaps in the league final on Saturday, also has world star Lionel Messi under contract.
Werner’s working paper in Leipzig is currently valid until summer 2026. The 29-year-old has only appeared in one Bundesliga game for the Saxons this season. In the 1-0 win in Wolfsburg at the end of September, Werner came on as a substitute in the final minute.
Last season, the striker played on loan for Tottenham Hotspur in England, but was also sidelined by the Londoners. Werner has not played a game for the German national team, for whom he scored 24 goals in 57 international matches, since 2023.
According to the portal “transfermarkt.de”, its market value is currently five million euros. Leipzig released Werner from Chelsea in the summer of 2022 for 20 million euros. The “Blues” transferred 53 million euros to the Bundesliga club for Werner in 2020. At its peak, the market value of the former Stuttgart native was estimated at 80 million euros.
