Ex-BVB talent Reda Khadra leaves Brighton for Stade Reims

After three championship loans

Reda Khadra is leaving Brighton & Hove Albion firmly after three years and three loans to join Stade Reims in Ligue 1. The 22-year-old offensive all-rounder has signed a contract in Champagne until 2027. The “Seagulls” will receive a fee of an unknown amount, Khadra’s working paper there ran until 2024.

According to TM information, Reims have prevailed in the courtship of Khadra against strong competition, including clubs from Italy and Spain as well as Bundesliga clubs, which are strategically targeting young players. The attacker explains how Reims convinced him: “After talking to the sporting directors and the coach, I immediately had a good feeling. I feel like I’m arriving in a competitive team that isn’t afraid to let young players play. The coach is hungry for victories and the project has been going very smoothly for several seasons.”

The German U21 national player moved from Borussia Dortmund to Brighton in 2020. There he had hoped to make the leap into the Premier League in the medium term, but was prevented from doing so due to injury. The native of Berlin made his debut for the Brighton pros in January 2021 against Manchester City (0-1), it was the only game in England’s top floor. Khadra’s loans were more successful in the Championship, where he contributed eight goals and five assists in 56 games for Blackburn Rovers (2021/22), Sheffield United (first half 2022/23) and Birmingham City (January to the end of the season). In the Blues, the technically strong offensive man was set last.

In Reims, Khadra comes into one of the youngest teams in Ligue 1, which already relies heavily on talent – only four teams are currently undercut the average age of 24.2 years. At 30, Coach Will Still is also one of the youngest coaches in the top five leagues. In recent years, Reims has served as a springboard for expensive transfers to larger clubs for players such as Hugo Ekitiké (PSG), Wout Faes (Leicester), El Bilal Touré (Almería), Boulaye Dia (Villarreal, now Salernitana), Edouard Mendy (Rennes, then via Chelsea to Al-Ahli) and Axel Disasi (Monaco).
