An unexpected incident causes unrest at Sparta Prague: Tomáš Rosický, sports director of the club and former captain of the Czech national team, had to be taken to the hospital – to the intensive care unit. Now the 44-year-old withdraws for the time being.
As the club announced, Rosický was suddenly taken to the hospital about a week ago. There the doctors diagnosed heart problems, but surgery was not necessary. In the meantime, the former midfielder is back home.
Until further notice, Tomáš Sivok takes over the tasks of the sports director. Rosický himself explained that he always worked with full devotion in his career as a player and functionary. He never spared himself, but always acted with full commitment.
Now the health situation has made it clear to him that he had to pay more attention to himself. “This situation showed me that I have to take care of myself better,” the 44-year-old is quoted in a club announcement. According to his own statement, “unfavorable lifestyle” and lack of movement would have led to his hospital stay.
Most recently, Rosický’s position was questioned in the media after the separation of coach Lars Friis. However, the club had clearly known to its sports director. Rosickýs has been working in this function since the end of 2018.
As a professional, he played at Borussia Dortmund from 2001 to 2006, then ten years at Arsenal. In 2017 he ended his career as a player at Sparta Prague.
