Carsten Jancern won the Champions League as a player with Bavaria. As a trainer, his career is less successful. Now he was released after a few weeks.
The time of Carsten Jancker as head coach at Austria Klagenfurt is over again. Just a few weeks after his obligation, the club decided not to extend the expiring contract with the former soccer player. Instead, his previous assistant Rolf Landerl takes over.
Jancer was hired at the end of April as the successor to Peter Pacult. At that time, Klagenfurt was in the middle of the relegation battle. But the new impulse on the sidelines had no effect: the team only won two draws from the four remaining season games and received two defeats. As the bottom of the table, the team relegated to the second division.
For the 50-year-old, it was the first stop as head coach in a first division team. Previously, Jancer had looked after undermined teams in Austria: With SV Horn, he managed to promote the 2nd league. Most recently, he was used by the regional league team DSV Leoben until January.
The attacker played 225 competitive games for the German record champion, in which he scored 79 goals. In addition to four German championships, he won the DFB Cup twice with the FCB and the Champions League in 2001.
The new Chief Coach Rolf Landerl Klagenfurt has been working at Austria since summer 2024. He also brings experience from German football: from 2016 to 2021 he worked at VfB Lübeck and made it to the 3rd division with the 2020 club.
