The ex-Bayern star is currently in the MLS playoffs with the Vancouver Whitecaps. Now he reveals details about everyday life with his teammates – and becomes clear.
Thomas Müller has been playing in Canada since the summer – and has quickly taken on a central role within the team structure. In addition to his sporting achievements, he also attracts attention off the pitch for the Vancouver Whitecaps.
“I give the team more naked truths between the lines than they were used to and would sometimes like,” said the 2014 world champion to “Kicker”. The former Bayern professional complained: “The boys are super nice to each other here, sometimes too nice on the pitch for my taste.” With his direct manner, he wanted to show “that you can be nice and still clearly address things that need to be done better.”
Müller joined the Whitecaps in the summer after leaving FC Bayern Munich. In ten competitive games for the Canadian club, he has so far scored nine goals and four assists – and has therefore exceeded his own expectations: “I didn’t have such high expectations when it came to the goals. I’ve definitely exceeded them. Of course I’m happy about the goals, but mostly I’m happy about the team successes,” said Müller.
Anything is still possible for the Whitecaps before the playoff duel against Los Angeles FC on Saturday (local time). The winner then advances to the Western Conference finals. Then the final against the best club in the Eastern Conference awaits. The Whitecaps are still three wins away from the Major League Soccer championship.
