Andreas Görlitz was a national player and a Bayern professional. Then numerous injuries slowed him down. He hasn’t forgotten Uli Hoeneß’s advice during his difficult times.
Andreas Görlitz still remembers a special gesture from Uli Hoeneß. In the midst of setbacks, the long-time Bayern maker showed great humanity. He supported the former full-back at a time when other clubs might have given up on him.
“You can think whatever you want about Uli. But he does everything for the people at Bayern,” said Görlitz in an interview with the sports portal Spox. During his lengthy rehab phase, Hoeneß sent him on vacation without further ado – with clear words: “Now screw the rehab for a moment and go on vacation with your girlfriend for two weeks.”
The now 43-year-old now trains TSV Rott/Lech. Between 2004 and 2010, Görlitz was under contract with FC Bayern; he previously played for TSV 1860 Munich, Karlsruher SC and FC Ingolstadt, among others. In 2004 he played twice for the German national team – then numerous injuries kept throwing him back.
Görlitz is particularly grateful to the then Bayern manager for a decision after his almost two and a half year break. “My contract has actually expired. Most clubs would have gotten rid of me,” he said. But Hoeneß expressed his trust in him and asked: “‘Andi, how long are we going to do it? Two or three years?’ That gave me enormous security and was a brutal show of trust.”
After his professional career ended in 2014, Görlitz turned to music. He even appeared with his band in the opening act for AC/DC. But the corona pandemic “pulled the plug a bit” on the band’s development, said Görlitz. Although they continue to release songs occasionally, everyone involved has “reoriented themselves a bit”.
