Ex-Bayern professional at Salernitana
Franck Ribéry (39) is one of the oldest field players in Serie A. The former Bayern professional will apparently not be able to raise his own bar any higher. The Frenchman has reportedly had to hang up in the employ of US Salernitana. When he last played in August 2022, the winger was 39 years, four months and seven days.
Ribéry, Ibrahimovic & Co.: Oldest outfield players in Serie A since 2000
The Italian reporter Gianluca Di Marzio reports on the inevitable decision by Ribéry, who could have unknowingly taken his last steps in a professional game with a joker on the first day of the current season against AS Roma (0:1). Since then, Ribéry has been injured, but now the pain should prevail. An official announcement from the 81-time international is expected shortly.
There is talk of terminating the contract, which runs until the end of the season, although Ribéry is not expected to leave the Granata entirely. He will stay with the club in another capacity. The French newspaperL’Equipe“ assumes an ambassadorial role that the second-most played foreign player in Bayern history should play in Salerno at least until the end of the season.
