The Spanish police have arrested an ex-footballer By Jesús Emilio Díez de Mier51, who was convicted in 2015 of smuggling 950 kilos of cocaine. The matter was reported by Marca and Bild, among others.
The nine-year escape ended on December 15 when he was stopped for a routine identity check on a highway in southwest Spain. Díez de Mier was taken to the station for further investigation because he initially gave false information about his identity to the police.
In 2015, a Spanish court found that Díez de Mier belonged to a criminal organization that organized drug smuggling. The former soccer player was convicted of two cocaine shipments from Argentina, the combined value of which was estimated at 32 million euros. The sentence could not be carried out before Díez de Mier disappeared underground.
Nicknamed Txutxi, the topper represented Athletic Bilbao’s league team in the 1995-96 season. From the Basque club, Matka’s career continued for almost ten years at lower league levels.
