Today the liberation is being celebrated exuberantly in Assen at the Liberation Festival at the Baggelhuizerplas. You can read who is performing, where exactly you should be and how to get there in this overview.
For more than twenty years, festival goers have been able to attend the Liberation Festival in our provincial capital. And this year too, thousands of visitors will celebrate freedom at the Baggelhuizerplas. The free festival starts at 12:30 PM and lasts until 11:00 PM. Access to the festival grounds is closed from 9:30 PM.
Today, artists perform with a diverse repertoire. The party will kick off at the Main Stage at 1 p.m. with the Ambassador of Freedom Rolf Sanchez. The Dutch Latin musician’s performance lasts 45 minutes, until 1:45 PM. This will be followed by Marc Floor, the North Pole Orchestra together with Ellen ten Damme, Fay and Viktor.
The men of Chef’ Special will close the festival at the Baggelhuizerplas from 10:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
In addition to the performances on the Main Stage, there are numerous performances on the six other stages. Including the Sena Stage, De Bonte Wever Dance Stage and the Blues Stage. There is a lot of Drenthe Talent on Sena Stage. The liberation fire will be lit here at 1.45 pm and the winners of Songs for Freedom will perform: Màvcase and Natasia.
Various DJs perform on Dance Stage, such as thirteen-year-old Noé Dale. DJ Hans Glock is the last act on this stage at 9:30 PM. Yet another completely different genre can be heard on the Blues stage. Blues musicians from home and abroad perform here, such as Miss Helena from Assen and the Texan Guy Forsyth Band.
The festival can be reached in various ways. If you come by bicycle, you can store it in the designated bicycle sheds. There are traffic controllers on site who will show you the way.
For travelers who come by public transport, extra shuttle buses run between Assen station and the Drenthe Liberation Festival.
If you come by car, you can park it at the TT Circuit. Free shuttle buses run between the parking lot and the festival site. There is also a parking lot on Polweg. Anyone who is dropped off and picked up can be dropped off and picked up at the Kiss & Ride at the entrance of Van de Valk Hotel aan de Zoom. The parking lots and Kiss & Ride can be reached via De Haar.
There is also a disabled parking space, near the North entrance of the liberation festival. This can be reached via Europaweg Zuid, De Haar, Witterhaar and Polweg.
Tomorrow it will be a lot cooler at 14 degrees than it has been in recent days. Warm clothing is therefore not an unnecessary luxury. In Drenthe it will be partly to heavily cloudy tomorrow. There is still a chance of some light rain in the east of the province. In the west of Drenthe it remains dry in most places.
