Everything is now decided for Jürgen Klopp

Jürgen Klopp was already able to secure a title in his last season with Liverpool FC. Three more could follow. It will soon be decided whether this will work.

The scenes that unfolded at London’s Wembley Stadium at the end of February after the English League Cup final may have given football fans around the world goosebumps. There they stood, the entire team of the English top team Liverpool FC, players and staff, arm in arm and swayed back and forth in front of the curve, which was still completely filled with fans, after the final whistle. The supporters held up their scarves and sang the club anthem “You’ll never walk alone” – and the team around coach Jürgen Klopp sang along.

By winning the League Cup final against Chelsea (1-0 aet), Liverpool FC secured their first title of the year. For Klopp it was “by far the most extraordinary trophy I have ever won,” as he pathetically put it after the game. This was mainly because Liverpool, which had recently been plagued by the loss of numerous top stars, had to rely on a number of academy players who still won the title.

And seven days later, last weekend, three teenagers, Bobby Clark, Conor Bradley and Jayden Danns, played for Liverpool in the Premier League away against relegation candidate Nottingham Forest. They saw first-hand how superstar Darwin Núñez headed the winning goal in the ninth minute of stoppage time and all the dams in the away corner broke.

The reason: The goal means that Liverpool FC will be leading the league in the important weeks in which the club will be playing for three more titles after winning the League Cup. Everything will now be decided for Jürgen Klopp and his team. The coach can finally make himself immortal in Liverpool.

Because in the summer it will be over at Anfield Road for the 56-year-old. He had already announced this in January. “I have no energy left,” Klopp said in a video message to the fans at the time. His farewell weighs heavily on supporters. Klopp has left too deep a mark on the club, winning the Champions League in 2019, the championship in 2020 and the League Cup and FA Cup in 2022 with his team.

Klopp wants to “get everything out of this season”

In particular, the victory in the Premier League four years ago fueled the Klopp cult in Liverpool once again. The club had previously waited 30 years for a championship title in the league. Klopp satisfied the fans’ longing.

Before he says goodbye, he would like to repeat his greatest success once again: “Let’s get everything we can out of this season so that we have one more thing in the future that we can look back on with a smile,” said Klopp in the said video message. In order to win the championship again, Liverpool must first overcome what is currently probably the most difficult hurdle in club football on Sunday.

The new rivalry at England’s top

Manchester City will be guests at Anfield Road. The Sheikh club has won the Premier League championship three years in a row, five times in the last six years. Last season, star coach Pep Guardiola and his team also won the FA Cup and the Champions League, thus completing the historic treble.
