For the 2026 season, eleven will be traveling in Formula 1 instead of ten teams and accordingly also 22 instead of 20 drivers. There again: Sergio Pérez, who was recently shot at Red Bull Racing at Red Bull Racing! RTL/NTV and Sport.de experienced that.
At the end of 2024, Sergio Pérez was chased from the farm at Red Bull Racing, the Mexican was too inferior in the direct duel with his Formula 1 teammate, none other than four-time world champion Max Verstappen. But after only one year of time there will be a quick comeback from Pérez.
According to information from RTL/NTV and sport.de If Pérez has agreed on a contract with Cadillac, the 35-year-old will start for the US racing team from 2026 and will take over one of the two previously vacant cockpits. At Cadillac, Pérez, who also brings some sponsors, wants to show that the Red Bull draft was a mistake.
“Image” also reports accordingly, where Pérez and the F1 Neustiger have even had an agreement for months.
Cadillac wants to introduce his new team to the upcoming racing weekend in Miami, then Pérez could possibly also be confirmed as a new pilot.
But does Pérez still have the stuff for the premier class of motorsport? Yes, says Sauber team boss Jonathan Wheatley, who worked together with the Mexican for years at Red Bull. He is convinced that his former companion is more than prepared for an immediate F1 return.
Formula 1-way companion believes in Pérez
“I think Checo is very able to get back and to find his rhythm quickly with a new team,” said Wheatley recently in an interview with “Formula.hu”. The 2024 season was difficult for the Mexican because he “sat in one of the toughest cockpits of the F1, right next to Max,” said the former Red Bull sports director.
“When you look back: he had a little more problems with the car than Max, but it seems that this is the case this year,” said Wheatley with a view of Liam Lawson and also Yuki Tsunoda, to whom Verstappen drives or drove in the Red Bull car.
For Cadillac, the experiences of the veteran may have been decisive to entrust him with the first of the two cockpit.
Wheatley also alluded to this. “He understands these things very well. I always thought that he gave the engineers very, very clear and easy to understand explanations and feedback on the behavior of the car. Checo is very professional, very talented and of course a quick driver with whom you could work great,” praised the Brit.
Anyone who will drive to Pérez ‘side at Cadillac is still open. The best chances are attributed to US racing drivers Colton Herta. The 25-year-old is currently in the Indycar series.
