Everything for a good cause: even the director of SG De Dijk gets sprayed

At the initiative of teacher Sanne Mous, the entire school is committed to the 3FM Serious Request campaign on the last day before the Christmas holidays. Following the example of the radio station, the school also raises money to combat the disease ALS.

For twelve hours, students and teachers work hard to raise the largest amount possible. “Our target amount was 2,000 euros, but when we started this morning, we already had 1,500 euros,” says Mous with satisfaction. Before half of the program had expired, the target amount had already been achieved.

It is a cheerful atmosphere in the secondary school on Thursday afternoon. Homemade food is sold at the market. In the game room, a little further away, there are tense heads with square eyes. “Students could be sponsored to play games for a few hours. There was sufficient interest for this,” the initiator laughs.

Students also make a radio program about the campaign for half a day. Abiir Mugtaar and Jairo de Jong go from here to here like frantic reporters. “We interview people and ask what they think of this day. I really enjoy doing it. Maybe later I will make a program myself,” says the latter. Musicians perform on the open stage, such as former students Sam and Suus Kruijer and singer Boaz. The telephone book of ‘Mr. Haakman’, as music teacher Rhythm Haakman is called, came in handy.

The campaign ‘What IF SG De Dijk takes action’ will continue until late tonight, including Christmas bingo and a raffle. When the fire brigade comes in, Mous already knows what time it is. “We’re getting sprayed. Everything for a good cause,” she says with a wink. “My colleagues are participating, as are 16 students. And the director is also getting sprayed.”

She looks around with a satisfied look. “The students responded very enthusiastically to this idea. That’s nice to see. We also did something like that five years ago, but for 24 hours. For now I thought a campaign of 12 hours was long enough.” Tomorrow it will be announced how much the campaign has raised.
