Bundesliga club VfL Bochum started training for the coming season on Wednesday without newcomers Moritz-Broni Kwarteng (25) and Matus Bero (27). Coach Thomas Letsch (54) asked his players to gallop in front of around 1,500 fans in the Ruhr Stadium. Slovakia international Bero received special leave, as did Takuma Asano.

“Everyone is hot – that’s the way it has to be,” said Letsch after the start. Now it’s a matter of getting “fit and ready”: “We held our class last year and of course that’s our big goal for the coming season.” He also announced further activities on the transfer market: “There will definitely be something else to do.”

On July 23, VfL will travel to a training camp in South Tyrol for a week before the season begins on August 12 with the first round of the DFB Cup at Arminia Bielefeld. Bochum then starts in the Bundesliga a week later with an away game at VfB Stuttgart.
