Europe’s hottest team – Liverpool FC close in on Manchester City

Duel on April 10th

After beating Arsenal 2-0, Liverpool have extended their Premier League winning streak to nine games, closing the gap on Manchester City to one point at the top of the table – the Reds are the hottest team in Europe’s top leagues.

“I know the only chance we have is to win an incredible amount of football games because our opponent wins an incredible amount of football games,” said Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. On the remaining nine match days, Pep Guardiola’s Man City will have the easier rest of the program in terms of the table, because Liverpool is the only opponent from the top 6.

“We’ve pushed ourselves to crazy levels in recent years,” said Klopp, who has to face Manchester United and Tottenham in the final quarter of the season – but the big game is on April 10 at the Etihad Stadium.

While Man City were the undisputed champions last season with a 17-point lead over Liverpool, Klopp celebrated the 2019/20 title 18 points behind the Skyblues. A heart-stopping final came in 2018/19 when Guardiola’s men finished with 98 points – one more than the Reds.

Liverpool have ‘Momentum’ on their side: ‘Most fragile flower on this planet’

Diogo Jota (54th minute) and former Hoffenheimer Roberto Firmino (62nd) put the visitors on course for success against Arsenal within minutes of the second half after goalkeeper Alisson Becker had initially prevented a deficit.

“Of course it gives you momentum, but momentum is the most fragile flower on the planet: someone just has to walk past you and step on it and it’s over and you have to work to get the momentum back,” said Klopp.
