The European Parliament believes that EU member states should take tougher action against Hungary by depriving Hungary of its voting rights. A proposal to this effect by Dutch MEP Tineke Strik (GroenLinks-PvdA) was adopted by a large majority on Tuesday. The Member States have been discussing it for years, but to the dissatisfaction of the European Parliament, no decision has been taken.
