By moving to Middelkerke, Kanko says he wants to be closer to her family, especially closer to her mother. “My mother lives in Ostend. By moving to the coast, it becomes easier to spend time with her occasionally and better take care of each other. For me that is no detail. It is essential,” says Kanko.
Kanko, who was re-elected as a member of parliament in June last year, was mentioned for a while as a candidate mayor in Vilvoorde. But finally she decided not to throw the sash. She found that ambition not to combine her role as a single mother and her mandate as a European Member of Parliament.
