European Championship qualification: Oranje celebrates important away win

The Dutch national football team celebrated an important victory in the European Championship qualification. In Ireland, Bond coach Ronald Koeman’s team deservedly won 2-1 (1-1).

Poland, on the other hand, has to worry about its ticket to EURO 2024 in Germany after the embarrassing 0:2 (0:1) in Albania.

Substitute Hoffenheim striker Wout Weghorst scored the winning goal for Oranje in Dublin in the 56th minute. Previously, Cody Gakpo (19th, penalty kick) had equalized the early lead of Adam Idah (4th, hand penalty).

The Netherlands, who lost 4-0 to runners-up France in March, celebrated their third win in their fourth qualifying game despite a weak first half. With nine points they are level on points with Greece, who have played one game more, and are second in Group B behind the French (15 points).

European Championship without Lewandowski’s Poland?

Poland, on the other hand, suffered their next serious setback in Group E. Even former world footballer Robert Lewandowski, who was in the starting line-up, could not prevent the third defeat in the fifth qualifying game. Jasir Asani (37th) and Mirlind Daku (62nd) scored for the new league leaders from Albania.

Poland is only fourth with six points with three games remaining. The Czech Republic (eight points), which has only played four games, is in second place, which also entitles it to take part in the European Championship.
