Manchester United only won with great difficulty against the underdog from Nicosia. Cristiano Ronaldo played through but didn’t score.

Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has averted embarrassment in the Europa League with Manchester United. The “Red Devils” came after the break at the blatant outsider Omonia Nicosia from Cyprus to a 3: 2 (0: 1) and are on course for the knockout round. With six points, the top English club is second in Group E.

Ronaldo unlucky in graduation

After Ronaldo had not even been substituted on in the 3: 6 swatter in the Manchester derby against City four days earlier, he played through and well against the cup winners from Cyprus – he only acted unluckily in the end. The 37-year-old, free-standing, only hit the post from almost six meters (78th). In stoppage time, he flicked the ball just wide of the goal from the best position and roared his frustration into the evening sky.

However, others scored with Marcus Rashford (53′, 84′) and Anthony Martial (63′), Karim Ansarifard (34′) and Nikolaos Panagiotou (85′) scored for the rebellious underdog.

Real Sociedad won 2-0 at FC Sheriff Tiraspol thanks to goals from David Silva (53′) and Aritz Elustondo (62′) and lead Group E with nine points from three games.
