As in the Champions League and Europa League, an Italian team made it to the final of the Conference League on Thursday (May 18, 2023). Fiorentina play West Ham United for the title.
Antonin Barak decided the game at FC Basel in the ninth minute of added time in extra time in favor of Fiorentina. After 90 minutes, the Italians equalized the 1:2 from the first leg with the same result. Former Stuttgart player Nicolas Gonzalez scored both goals (35’/72′), Zeki Amdouni equalized in the meantime (55′).
West Ham sovereign against Alkmaar
West Ham had far less trouble against AZ Alkmaar. Although the English only scored the winning goal very late through Pablo Fornals (90+4), a draw would have been enough for coach David Moyes’ team after the 2-1 win in the first leg.
Pablo Fornals scored the goal for West Ham in the fourth minute of added time. Coach David Moyes’ football team had already won the first leg 2-1 against the Dutch. In the final, the Premier League club meets FC Basel or AC Florenz. The final will take place in Prague on June 7th.
