The basketball players of FC Bayern Munich have clinched their third victory in the Euroleague. Bayern won 75-74 (42-33) at ASVEL Villeurbanne Lyon. Due to the success, Munich was able to climb up the table a little.

The best thrower was Vladimir Lucic with 13 points. Andrea Trinchieri’s team thus continued its recently interrupted upward trend in the Euroleague.

The Munich team had a hard time getting into the game and quickly fell 5-0 behind. But then the German runner-up found his rhythm, equalized first and then went on a 10-0 run. Munich extended the 15:6 lead to ten points by the end of the first quarter. The game was balanced in the second half. Both teams took next to nothing on their average shooting odds.

That changed in the third quarter when Bayern scored just 11 points and hosts Lyon leveled the scores 53-53 towards the end. After that it was a game at eye level. Lyon scored a little better from the three-man line, but neither team was able to break away.

When the hosts were able to pull away to 71:66 four minutes before the end of the game, the seventh defeat seemed sealed. But Niels Giffey with a three and Augustine Rubit equalized again. Giffey brought the guests back to the front with two converted free throws, which Lyon countered with a three-point shot to make it 74:73. Again it was Rubit who stayed ice cold in the hectic final phase from the free-throw line and ensured the narrow success.
