EuroLeague: ALBA Berlin loses at FC Barcelona

The German basketball champion Alba Berlin suffered the second defeat in 48 hours in the EuroLeague. At the Spanish top club FC Barcelona, the Berliners kept up for a long time, but ultimately lost 56:72 (35:34).

Alba, who lost 87:93 at Baskonia Vitoria on Tuesday, is still at the bottom of the table. Barca are still in the top group, the Catalans were already qualified for the quarter-finals of the premier class before the game.

The Albatrosses did not get off to a good start and fell behind early on by 9:15 (6th). However, by the end of the first quarter, head coach Israel Gonzalez’s team turned the game around and even led by a narrow margin at half-time.

After the change of sides, the favorite increased. Alba didn’t hit his shots consistently, but showed a reasonable defensive performance. Due to the offensively weak performance, the team around national player Maodo Lo could not keep up, especially in the final quarter.

The best scorer in second place in the Bundesliga was Yanni Wetzell with just nine points. For the Spaniards, Sertac Sanli led his team with twelve points.

Like runners-up Bayern Munich, Berlin has long since had no chance of reaching the playoffs in Europe’s highest club competition after a disappointing season. Nine wins now face 23 defeats at Alba.
