Rot-Weiss Essen uses a serious mistake and adds the second defeat to Energie Cottbus in a few days. The Lausitzer must worry about the climb.

Rot-Weiss Essen celebrated an important away win in the third division. The team won 1-0 (1-0) at the promotion aspirant Energie Cottbus on Wednesday evening and added the second defeat to the Lausitzers within a few days.

Ramien Safi used a serious mistake in the Cottbus defensive for early leading to Essener in the third minute. An overly short back pass from Niko Bretschneider enabled the RWE attacker to run free on the gate, which he used ice cold.

In front of 12,113 spectators at the LEAG Energie Stadium, the team of energy trainer Claus-Dieter Wollitz continued to present itself unsettled after the 1: 5 clap at 1860 Munich Last Saturday. The hosts found hardly any remedies against the compact defense of the Esseners.

The guests could even have expanded their leadership. In the 29th minute, Safi ran alone towards energy goalkeeper Elias Bethke, but failed in one-on-one. Shortly before the break, José-Enrique Rios Alonso narrowly missed the second goal for RWE with a header.

After the change of sides, the Cottbuser brought substitutes from Yannik Möker and Lucas Copado more momentum into the offensive game of the Lausitzer. However, the last precision in the end was missing, so it remained 0-1.

For Energie Cottbus, the defeat means a bitter setback in the promotion race. Six game days before the end of the season, the Lausitzer are in third place behind leaders Dynamo Dresden and Arminia Bielefeld. As a season goal, the association had issued the promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga after the relegation, which was already in February-but at least fourth place and thus the qualification for the DFB Cup.
