Also today, the doors of the Oosterstraat location of the Esdal College in Emmen remained closed due to heating problems. Yesterday the school closed its doors because of the broken heating, it was about four degrees in the school.
Location director Arna Roersma has good and bad news. Because the broken heating has been repaired, but the school will remain closed tomorrow.
“The heating is working again, but it is a large building and it is difficult to get the heat back in properly. That is why we have decided that our location will remain closed tomorrow. It will still be too cold to teach,” says Roersma.
But ice-free is not an option for the students tomorrow. “We have decided to take the lessons online tomorrow. It will take some switching, but colleagues will pick it up quickly. But it will take some digging in the memory, how did that work again during corona times?”
Many students were put to work independently today. So they stayed home that day. This does not apply to final year students from the Oosterstraat location. “We form a campus with the Boermarkeweg location, so we could move there with these students, so that they do not fall behind in their exams,” Roersma explains.
The director hopes to be able to return to his own heated location on Thursday.
