Erwin Java on tour with Cuby + Blizzards material next year: ‘Began to live again’

Java actually did not find it exciting at all that Erwin Nyhoff would take on the role of Harry Muskee for the theater spectacle last year. He didn’t have to get used to someone else playing his great friend Harry. “Erwin went along with it so enthusiastically. And I liked that he said: ‘Jeez, I didn’t think C+B’s music was so good’. I liked that he didn’t underestimate the music at all”, says Java.

Moreover, Nyhoff was not to become a copy of Muskee either. “Harry, for example, was a big fan of John Lee Hooker, but he gave it his own twist,” says Java. C+B released an album in 2003 with covers of blues legend Hooker.

The Drenthe guitarist did not consider involving other former Blizzards in the new theater tour. “That story was actually over after the project with Waylon fell through,” Java outlines. “So I let go of that idea. At the theater series and at the festival in Grolloo, we put in a good performance with the Travel Party band and Erwin Nyhoff, so I saw no reason to change that.”

Although the show still has to be put together, Java can already reveal that not only Cuby hits are played. Of course, classics like Window of my eyes and Somebody will know someday will probably pass by, but Java looks beyond just the ‘standard’ numbers.

“Not only am I sticking to the old repertoire, but I’m also looking for some songs from 1986.” That’s the year Java came to play in Muskee’s band. Songs from Muskee’s solo career will also be played during the tour.

Concert dates will appear on Java’s in due course website.
