Eric Clapton has postponed two concerts on his European tour

Eric Clapton has to postpone his next two live performances in Zurich and Milan because he fell ill with the corona virus shortly after his second concert in London’s Royal Albert Hall. In addition, the musician struggled with health problems after his corona vaccination last year.

Here is the opinion:

“Postponement of the concerts in Zurich and Milan. Eric Clapton has sadly fallen ill with Covid after testing positive shortly after the second concert at the Royal Albert Hall. His medical advisors told him that resuming travel and performing too early could significantly delay his full recovery. Also, Eric wants to avoid infecting his band, crew, promoters, staff and of course the fans.

After an intensive internal discussion, it was therefore decided with great regret and with apologies to all those affected to postpone the performances in Zurich on May 17th and in Milan on May 18th. We hope to continue the tour with the concerts in Bologna on May 20th and 21st.

It is very frustrating that Eric (…) is ill at this point. However, we hope that by the end of the week he will have recovered enough to be able to attend the remaining scheduled performances. A further announcement regarding the postponed shows will be made as soon as suitable dates can be found. The shows are scheduled to be rescheduled within the next six months and tickets purchased will remain valid for the new date.”

Health problems after corona vaccination

In May 2021, Clapton wrote about his experience with two doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine. The musician received this at intervals of several weeks. After that, the musician struggled with unwanted side effects every time. After the second dose he even feared the end of his active career as a musician:

“I took the first dose of AZ and immediately had severe reactions that lasted 10 days,” Clapton reported at the time. “I eventually recovered and was told it would be 12 weeks before I got the second shot.”

He continued: “About six weeks later I was offered the second AZ shot and I took it, but with a little more knowledge of the dangers. Needless to say, the reactions were catastrophic: my hands and feet were either frozen, numb or burned and were all but useless for two weeks. After that I feared I would never be able to play again (I suffer from peripheral neuropathy and should never have gone near the needle). But the propaganda said the vaccine was safe for everyone.”

No vaccination shows

Clapton also described compulsory vaccination at concerts as a form of discrimination. That’s why he doesn’t play at concerts where visitors have to prove they have been vaccinated.

“I want to say that I will not perform on any stage where there is a discriminated audience,” said the musician. “I reserve the right to cancel the show if there isn’t an opportunity for all people to attend.”
