ERC boasts of having led the organization of 1-O

  • Junqueras and Rovira highlight the key role of their party in promoting the referendum

On September 20, 2017, a police operation “dealt a tremendous blow to the direction and logistics” of 1-O. These are the words of the general secretary of the ERC, Martha Rovira, this Tuesday, in the act that commemorated the fifth anniversary of that day. An act that, above all, was a vindication without judicial complexes of the Republican leadership in the organization of the referendum.

“If the police entered the headquarters of Economy and stopped the entire leadership of the ‘conselleria’ it was not by chance,” cried the president of the Republicans, Oriol Junqueras, explaining that it was his Department and its leadership, that is, ERC, which had organized the entire 1-O. And therefore, the main objective of the police. Because if there was a transversal motto in all the parliaments of the act, it was the one that indicates that ERC “has been, is and will be” and that always, for 90 years, has been found in the thick of it of all the moments in which Catalonia has stood up to the State or to fascism.

This Tuesday he did not say so, but in a similar speech at the Diada he recalled that not all the independence parties today were so a decade ago, in reference, yes, to the convergent space.

It is obvious that this fifth anniversary of the fall of 2017 supposes a kind of second leg of the Diada, that is to say, with the pro-independence movement open to the channel, divided between the ‘immediatists’ (ANC and ‘laurist’ sectors of Junts) and those who want to broaden the base, that is, Esquerra. And until now, on 1-O, also due to the forced abandonment of ERC functions, for legal implications for its members that could have breastfed some facts that, even, for 21 people, is found ‘sub iudice’, it had been territory of the ‘immediatists’.

“Now they are all ‘sons of 1-O’ and I am happy”, said Rovira in an unequivocal reference to Laura Borràs and her book ‘Filla de l’1 d’octubre’, one of the political leaders who insists on the application of referendum mandate, “but those who did it are a series of people who they knew how to come back up to twice the blows that the State was propitiating us”. “Because between September 20 and October 1 a real comeback had to be made. And the second, when the Civil Guard entered the schools and we had to apply the universal census, that we had been preparing,” he insisted.

Rovira also had words for the ANC: “It is a serious contradiction that those who want to give us lessons on mobilization in the street and unfairly accuse us of having abandoned that mobilization, mobilize, in turn, against a part of the independence movement and against an independent government. It’s the world upside down”.

Faced with the current situation, Rovira opposed, and also Lluís Salvadó who, like Josep Maria Jové, In the coming weeks, they expect to be called to trial for the 1-O, the “communion between the street and the Government” of that time. Something to repeat “if you want to win.”

Junqueras also, making good that ERC “is and will be” spoke of the future, of how to build the next ‘attack’ against the State. “Now we know the path and we are not going to deviate even a millimeter from it. We will allow ourselves to be convinced by those who want to convince us that the best path is for the independence movement to be smaller and weaker,” he said, a reference that the Republicans attribute to the ‘purism’ that, according to them, is present in some sectors of Junts.
