EO makes series about Dutch slavery past

The EO is working on a youth series about the Dutch slavery past. Kofi’s Tori is being played in Suriname and can be seen from November 10 on Zapp.nl and the YouTube channel of NPO Zapp. A preview of the series can be seen in mid-October at the Cinekid festival in Amsterdam, the broadcaster announced on Wednesday.

In Kofi’s Tori, Kofi, a 14-year-old enslaved teenager, shares his story by vlogging. He tells about life on the plantation, his brother, his boss, about being in love as an enslaved, his past and finally his attempt to escape.

Kofi, the lead role in the online youth series, is played by Daniël Kolf. The actor, known from De Libi, among others, grew up in Suriname and moved to the Netherlands in 2015. “The series tells an important piece of history, the slavery past,” says Kolf. “Because we are vlogging the story and sharing it via socials, it will soon be visible to a new generation. The future must know its past, so that it will not repeat itself.”
