Sunday is Father’s Day again. For an online bank, that was a reason to find out how entrepreneurs experience paternity. Three quarters of the fathers surveyed see a positive influence.

“They especially appreciate that they can organize their time themselves and be at home more often during the day. That freedom enables them to combine work and upbringing in a way they want it,” researchers from Knab conclude from the answers that five hundred enterprising fathers gave a questionnaire.

Many fathers indicate that thanks to their entrepreneurship they can bring their children more often and pick it up, for example to school, swimming lessons and sports clubs. Others mention lunch together on Wednesday whether there are just on a study day. “Moments that are often more difficult to plan,” said the researchers.

On the other hand, one in four fathers says they experience predominantly disadvantages, such as stress, long working days and the feeling of constantly being ‘on’. As a result, the bond with their child was not improved by entrepreneurship.

Birth

Around the birth of their child, many fathers experienced the benefits of being independent. Of these fathers, 82% look back positively on the fact that they were an entrepreneur during that period. “I was able to be everywhere in the first months, by working a little more in the evenings. During the day I was a lot at home,” says a hospitality ZZP member with two children.

The vast majority of fathers (92%) are also proud that they can give their children entrepreneurship as an example. “They learn that you don’t have to think in a box as a future wage slave. Make your own dreams. Take care of yourself,” says a self -employed person in construction.

With the children, there is also more sense of responsibility for entrepreneurs. Seven out of ten fathers surveyed say they have arranged something in case they become incapacitated for work.

Fathers who previously also worked as an employee when they already had children can compare well. No less than 83% of them say that as an entrepreneur they experience more freedom in the combination of work and family than when they were an employee.

“As an entrepreneur, I now earn what I did in 8 months in 3.5 months. And I bring my daughter to special education every day. That is priceless,” says a self -employed person in IT.

The most (56%) say from this group of former employees than they experienced more financial rest than now as an entrepreneur.
