English media impressed by three PSV players: ‘Dancing Xavi Simons terrorizes Arsenal’ European football

Where Arsenal gets a lot of kicks in the English media, there are plenty of compliments for PSV after the 2-0 victory of the Eindhoven team over the London club in the Europa League. Luuk de Jong, Cody Gakpo and Xavi Simons are especially praised.

“It is difficult to think of a game in which a player who came in at half-time had as much impact as Luuk de Jong tonight,” writes Sky Sports. ,,The attacker’s 45 minutes were great. needed on his way back from his injury.”

De Jong gets an 8 from the English sports channel, just like Simons and Gakpo. De Jong has been nominated by UEFA for the prize of ‘player of the week’.

“Arsenal fails in the first major European test,” says the BBC. “Gakpo and 19-year-old Simons gave the defense of the gunners handful of work.” The visitor to the website of the English state broadcaster also chose De Jong as man of the match.

The Guardian also points to De Jong. “Luuk de Jong inspires PSV to a victory,” the newspaper headlines. “Arsenal had little to say against the motivated PSV, which benefited from a masterclass by substitute Luuk de Jong in the second half. After his entrance, everything at PSV was right. .”

The Evening Standard states that the alarm bells should go off at Arsenal after the deserved defeat against PSV. ,,It was 2-0, but the result could have been much bigger. On three occasions, a PSV goal was rejected for offside.”

,,Arsenal had the ball in the first half, but did little with it. However, PSV was immediately dangerous when they had the ball. Just before half-time, Simons danced through the Arsenal defense, but his goal was disallowed. It was a warning to Londoners, but nothing was done about it.”

,,Thanks to poor defense, PSV scored twice after the break and this time the goals counted. The gunners were then outplayed and Simons terrorized their defense with his footwork and dribbling.”

Simons’ disallowed goal was named the best disallowed goal ever by Goal.com.

Mikel Arteta

“I’m very disappointed,” Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said after the game. ,,We were nowhere near our level and we know how difficult it is to win games in Europe. A number of players got out of breath because we had to chase the ball so much. Without a doubt, PSV deserved to win.”
