English Football Association wants to talk to Wiegman about contract extension NOW

The English Football Association would like to talk to national coach Sarina Wiegman about an extension of her contract. The Dutch became European champion on Sunday with ‘The Lionesses’, their first European Championship title in history.

“She has a few weeks off. When she’s back, we’ll talk,” England women’s football director Sue Campbell told the newspaper on Monday. BBC. “She did a great job and we have to remember that she didn’t come in until September.”

The 52-year-old Wiegman started as the national coach of the English national team in 2021 after having had the Orange Women under her wing for almost five years. Since her arrival, England have not lost a game. She still has a contract until mid-2025.

“She brought the team together in a short time. Not only the players, but also the entire team around it,” said Campbell. “During her application, we knew we were bringing in the best technical and tactical coach in the world.”

‘Would be great if she wants to stay’

English Football Association chairman Mark Bullingham also hopes Wiegman wants to stay longer. “She is a special person and a real talent. We would love it if she wanted to stay,” he says.

“We weren’t sure if we would win this tournament. We were hoping that maybe in the future we could do that. She got a great result, much earlier than we could have dreamed.”

If Wiegman ends her current contract with England, she will at least experience the 2023 World Cup and the 2025 European Championship with her team.
