Last year, the Bundesliga had won one of the two extra starting places for the premier class. Now England is at the forefront – and could even get another participant.

The Premier League takes a course on a participant record in the Champions League. In the coming season, England could put six clubs in the premier class for the first time – a novelty in top European football. This is made possible by a special constellation of league success and international competitions.

The Premier League has four fixed starting places anyway. A fifth place is already fixed because England can no longer be replaced by the first two positions in the UEFA ranking. This takes into account the services of all clubs in a country in the ongoing European Cup competitions.

Last year, the two additional places went to Germany and Italy. Spain currently has the best chances of the second extra starting place this season. The Bundesliga fell back to fourth place after all German teams left the ranking and can no longer improve.

A sixth participant from England could be added via the Europa League. The winner of the competition is automatically qualified for the Champions League. Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are still in the semi -finals, but are only in places 14 and 15 in the home league – success in Europe would be their only qualification.

A seventh starting place, on the other hand, is off the table. Aston Villa, currently seventh of the Premier League, should have won the Champions League. However, the club was eliminated in the quarterfinals against Paris Saint-Germain. Arsenal FC is the second place in the league in the league.
