The ice rink is housed in a shed on the site of the former Window manufacturer Vlieghe. The slope received a temporary environmental permit for three years in 2020 and it ended at the end of 2023. Only in February 2025 a new application was submitted for an extension of three years, but it is now being rejected.
The city is based on the refusal on various elements. During the public inquiry, around fifty local residents submitted objections. They were mainly about noise pollution from parties, a non-licensed outdoor terrace and additional traffic and parking pressure. According to the city, these objections are well -founded. In the original permit, only an indoor cafeteria was admitted that is open during the opening hours of the ice rink. The outside terrace is not even mentioned in the application. According to the plans there is a bicycle shed. In addition, parties are organized without the required admission.
