She registered with the board as a designer for the parade. “I am creative, I can draw, I can convey things and I have ideas, but it was ultimately up to the neighborhood to choose my design. And to take me into it. That was quite a whole learning school in the beginning.”

“I think my very first design was Laurel and Hardy. That was a car with little color, because we referred to a black-and-white film. I had designed a few very large heads of them, really with a smile of both of them. I then first molded it in clay, so that we could reconcile it on a scale.”

For those designs, Bos was inspired by everything around her. “Ideas bubbling up, that just goes on all the time. If you have a theme, you start thinking, but sometimes it just comes your way. That’s how I get ideas in nature and things I am interested in.”
