Emre Can recalls the style with Klopp: “If you didn’t run, you ended up on the bench or in the grandstand”

The midfielder recalls training and matches under the guidance of the German coach.

Emre Canmidfielder currently of the Borussia Dortmundgave an interview to The Athletic in which he retraced some stages of his career, focusing in particular on the period he lived with Jurgen Klopp as manager at Liverpool.

“When I think back to those moments, I always say that I remember how much we ran,” he began Emre Can referring to the needs of the coach in training and in the match. “We were going up and down all day. In the beginning the quality wasn’t very high, but in the last two seasons we’ve had a really strong team who also understand the importance of hard work.”

“Anyone who didn’t understand this need to work was immediately ‘woken up’. You had no choice with Klopp, he was very demanding. If you didn’t get to the second ball, he would scream and the next time you did everything to get there very quickly (laughs, ed.). If you weren’t running all day, you’d be on the bench or in the grandstand in no time.”
