Osnabrück (dpa-Afx)-The employers’ association Lower Saxony metal is asking the state government to work for a settlement of the armaments group Rheinmetall am VW (Volkswagen (VW) VZ) location Osnabrück. “The state government should do everything you can to win Rheinmetall for Osnabrück,” said managing director Volker Schmidt of the German Press Agency.

The work with around 2,300 employees threatens: the production of the Porsche models built there is due to expire in 2026, and the production of the VW T-Roc Cabrios in mid-2027. So far there is no follow -up order. Schmidt emphasized that one had to be realistic: “It is questionable whether Rheinmetall can take over 2,300 VW employees.”

Intersection with armaments industry

There are many intersections. “A number of car suppliers are already trying to expand their product portfolio towards armor or medical technology,” said Schmidt. “But what we lose in the auto industry cannot be compensated for one to one.”

Rheinmetall boss Armin Papperger said in July that Osnabrück was “in the game” if you need additional capacities. A delegation from Rheinmetall had visited the location in March. Volkswagen (Volkswagen (VW) VZ) then spoke of a “open -ended discussion” without specific derivations. The debate about Osnabrück also falls at a time when Rheinmetall generally wants to expand – there is also a possible takeover of the Lürssen military promotions in Bremen./KGE/DP/MEN
