“After almost four seasons in the first selection, it now feels like the time to take a step,” Poku writes up Instagram. “From the training through Young to the first team of AZ. From the win of the Youth League to learning what professional really means. (And so on my thunder when my alarm clock was still on Ghanaian time.”
In the match against FC Groningen, Poku was changed in the second half. In tears he was then on the AZ couch. Realizing that he had played his last minutes before the Alkmaarders.
Bayer Leverkusen
This makes the presentation at Bayer Leverkusen only a formality. Poku will play at the German top club under trainer Erik ten Hag. The former trainer of Ajax has been working at the club that became champion of Germany in 2024 since this summer. At Leverkusen, with Mark Flekken, a Dutchman is also under the bar.
Poku landed at AZ in 2019. In 2023 he won the Youth League with the Onder-19 and via Young AZ he became a basic player at the first.
