In recent years, Emmen has sometimes not been in the news positively. For example, it would be the least attractive place to live, according to the Atlas for municipalities 2024. But new research by environmental organization Natuur & Milieu, in collaboration with engineering consultancy Sweco, shows that Emmen has one thing going for it. It is much greener than other big cities.
