Emma Wortelboer’s salary continues to rise steadily, although it is still not yet at the salary ceiling at the public broadcaster. “But it is a lot for my age,” said the presenter.
The 28-year-old Emma Wortelboer is anything but a public favorite, but she has been doing it at BNNVARA for years. They are very happy with her at the broadcaster, because her contract is being extended every time and she always gets a salary increase. Where she was still 64 thousand euros in 2019 and in 2021 at 70 thousand euros, that is now even higher.
86 thousand euros
Emma makes no secret of it. “You can know what I get paid at BNNVARA. Just over 86 thousand euros gross a year. That is a lot for my age. And also well paid for what I do. Sometimes even,” she says in Het Parool.
She continues: “At the age of nineteen I earned more than my mother who works in healthcare. So I don’t say that at all to scoop or something. It is what the system finds that you are worth.”
Salary maximum
With this salary, Emma is not still on the salary maximum at the public broadcaster, because this year is 246 thousand euros. And they think that is not worth her at BNNVARA.
Emma hopes to be able to grow at the broadcaster for a while, although she sees the cuts as a threat. “We finally took action at the NPO. Better late than never, we will say. We are going to demonstrate, collect signatures and all our programs have action people.”
Convulsive
Why does Emma actually throw her salary on the street? “I am in favor of less cramped dealing with what you earn. The world would still redecorate if those salaries are just transparent? Then you probably get less of those inexplicable inequality.”
She concludes: “You don’t talk about money, still find a lot of people. But come on, let’s not make it so fucking about it. If you earn a lot, it makes you no longer worth it as a person. And not the other way around.”
