Elton John is auctioning off art and junk from his former house

The musician sold his Atlanta home in 2023. Now treasures from it are being sold.

Elton John and his husband David Furnish are planning a massive auction of art and antiques. They are from their former Atlanta estate, which they sold in 2023 for $7.2 million. The total value of the approximately 900 lots that will go under the hammer at “Christie’s New York” is estimated at over ten million US dollars.

The auction, consisting of eight separate auctions, will begin on the evening of February 21st and end on February 23rd. There will also be six online auctions. They also include personal items – including Elton John’s 1970s silver platform boots, his 1990 Bentley convertible and some impressive art.

Not only does the collection feature extravagant items like a diamond-encrusted Rolex Daytona and a Yamaha piano from the musician’s living room, it also includes a wealth of Versace clothing and home furnishings. A standout part of the auction, however, are the approximately 360 photographs from John’s extensive archive. These images, by well-known photographers such as Irving Penn and Cindy Sherman, represent different genres. From iconic fashion to bold nude photography to 20th century social documentaries and contemporary art, it’s all there.

With a collection of over 7,000 prints, Elton John offers photography enthusiasts an opportunity to purchase artwork from his personal inventory. The auction is described by Christie’s International Head of Photographs, Darius Himes, as a unique opportunity to take a look into Elton John’s life over the last 30 years.
