Presenter Ellen Jokikunnas49, recalls Greetings from the family -podcast about the summer brain he received regarding the video in which his Ralph-his son was visible.
Last winter, Ralph received his grandchildren’s old skis, poles and skis from Jokikunnas’s aunt. Due to last winter’s bad weather, Ralph only got his first skiing experience this winter.
The skis and overalls I received from my aunt were not compatible with each other, so Ralph got overalls that fit the bindings. However, the poles were still too short for the boy, which Jokikunnas knew. Despite this, the presenter wanted her child to try skiing for the first time with the equipment in question.
Jokikunnas described his son’s enthusiastic first experience of skiing. The presenter posted the video on his Instagram account.
– I thought people would realize that a child’s joy is a child’s joy, and we are not seriously aiming for the Winter Olympics here, he recalls in the episode.
Ralph was first seen in the last episode of the second season of Unelmia Italia. MTV3
Soon, social media users criticized Jokikunnan for the boy’s too short poles.
– So I received more than 100 messages saying that “you are already killing your child’s skiing, interest and hobby. That you should immediately give that child poles of the right length”, he says.
Jokikunnas reminded a few commenters that Ralph just tried skiing for the first time. He told the commentators that there is no need to take the matter too seriously.
– I have never received so many negative messages about anything. Finns have really had some hooves in their nostrils, because the road rage is already online.
Jokikunnas says that the flood of feedback has been going on for a long time. In the end, Jokikunnas ended up announcing in their Instagram stories that Ralph is fine and that they realized the rods were short. More feedback followed the update.
– A lot of people defended it: “Hey, I teach skiing to children and did you know, Ellen, that nowadays they often don’t even give poles first”, says Jokikunnas.
Jokikunnas says that he has responded to many of those who gave feedback. Now he sends a message to people who criticize others on social media.
– Should I wait a bit before going somewhere on the internet to teach other people? Those other people may not be as stupid as you think.
Ralph joined Jokikunnas and his spouse Jari Raskin into the family in November 2024 through the adoption process. The couple waited for an adoptive child for more than six years. Jokikunnas and Rask got married in 2017 after seven years of dating.
