Elisabeth Reisinger once caused a sensation in the European Cup. Now she turns her back on the ski circus.

The Austrian ski racer Elisabeth Reisinger declared her resignation from active ski racing on Wednesday. In an emotional contribution on the Instagram platform, the 28-year-old said goodbye-with a lot of gratitude, but also a look back at some setbacks.

“After many years in ski racing, countless races, ups and downs, the moment came today when I end my active career as a ski racer,” writes Reisinger. The Upper Austrian had mainly been in the speed disciplines departure and Super-G.

At a young age, she was considered a great hope of the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) and celebrated considerable success in the European Cup. So she won the overall ranking in the 2018/2019 season as well as the discipline rating in the Super-G and the departure. In the World Cup, five placements in the episode of the top ten of a race also reach her. Her best result in the overall ranking was 41th in the 2019/2020 season.

In her farewell contribution on Instagram, however, Reisinger also openly wrote about difficult times in her career. She refers to several serious injuries: “Bone breaks, cruciate ligament tears, operations, setbacks – I have overcome all of this, fought again and again, worked back, often against doubts in my own head.”

Despite all the setbacks, the joy of her own sporting career predominates. “I am infinitely grateful for every day I was allowed to stand on the skis – for every start, every finish line, every success – but also for the setbacks that made me stronger. Thank you ski racing.” Reisinger left her future plans open in her contribution.
